Lanao del Norte — A decisive military operation led to a fierce confrontation with the Dawlah Islamiya-Maute Group in Ramain, Munai, Lanao del Norte, on Sunday, February 18.
The 1st Infantry “Tabak” Division of the Philippine Army confirmed that six (6) soldiers from the 44th Infantry Battalion were killed, while four (4) others sustained injuries during the encounter.
The wounded soldiers are set to be transferred to Camp Evangelista Station Hospital in Patag, Cagayan de Oro, for further medical treatment.
Three (3) members of the DI-Maute group were also killed in the clash, one of whom was recovered after the operation.
The exchange of gunfire between the government troops and members of the DI-MG lasted for approximately two hours.
High-powered firearms were also seized from the battlefield, including an M16 and M14 rifles, as well as an M203 grenade launcher, along with various war materials.
“I assure that the families of our fallen heroes will be taken cared of and best medical care is assured to those who are wounded in combat. Also, appropriate benefits and assistance will be provided to help them during this trying time,” Philippine Army Commander Lt. Gen Roy Galido said.
Lt. General Galido said that the Philippine Army remains relentless in attaining its goal of crushing the remaining DI-MG terrorists.
“The safety and security of our people are paramount and we will exert all efforts in ensuring that our communities are free from the threat of terrorism,” Lt. Gen. Galido added.
