Manila — Cagayan de Oro City Representative Lordan Suan has pointed out that studies have shown the impact of breakups on employees' emotional and mental well-being, which could affect the quality of their work.

According to a report from Radyo Pilipinas, Representative Suan is pushing for House Bill 9931, also known as the Heartbreak Recovery and Resilience Act.

The lawmaker emphasized the need for heartbreak leave and emotional support for employees who have experienced heartbreak.

Under the proposed bill, employees under 25 will be granted one (1) day of unpaid heartbreak leave annually. Those between the ages of 25 and 35 will be entitled to two (2) days, while individuals aged 36 and above will be granted three days.

Employees must also write to their employers about their breakup two days before taking the leave.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Civil Service Commission (CSC), in collaboration with mental health professionals, will provide materials to help alleviate the pain caused by the breakup.

The proposed measure also urged Confidential emotional support programs in workplaces to assist employees in coping with their emotional struggles.
