COMELEC, MILG, Security Sector Finalize Preparation for April 13 Plebiscite to Ratify the Establishment of 8 New Municipalities in the Region

Bangsamoro Autonomous Region —The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) convened once again with the security sector, including the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), to finalize preparations for the upcoming plebiscite on April 13 in 63 barangays of the Special Geographic Area to ratify the establishment of eight new municipalities in the region.


These towns include Pahamuddin, Kadayangan, Nabalawag, Old Kaabakan, Kapalawan, Malidegao, Tugunan, and Ligawasan.


COMELEC Chairman George Garcia led Tuesday's Command Conference in General Santos City.


Based on the measure, the villages of Balacayon, Buricain, Datu Binasing, Datu Mantil, Kadilingan, Lower Pangangkalan, Libungan Torreta, Matilac, Patot, Upper Pangangkalan, Lower Baquer, and Simsiman from the town of Pigcawayan will be part of the proposed municipality of Pahamudin.


For the proposed Kadayangan municipality, the villages of Central Labas, Kapinpilan, Malingao, Mudseng, Sambulawan, Tugal, and Tumbras from Midsayap will be included.


The villages to be incorporated into the proposed municipality of Nabalawag will be Damatulan, Kadigasan, Kadingilan, Kudarangan, Nabalawag, Olandang from Midsayap, and Dungguan from the town of Aleosan.


Meanwhile, the villages of Buluan, Nangaan, Sanggadong, Simbuhay, Simone, Pedtad, and Tamped from Kabacan will join the proposed town of Old Kaabakan.


The villages of Kibayao, Kitulaan, Langogan, Manarapan, Nasapian, Pebpoloan, and Tupig from Carmen will form part of the proposed municipality of Kapalawan.


Villages of Balungis, Batulawan, Fort Pikit, Gokotan, Nabundas, Nalapaan, and Nunguan from Pikit will be included in the proposed municipality of Malidegao.


The proposed municipality of Tugunan, on the other hand, will comprise Balong, Bualan, Lagunde, Macabual, Macasendeg, Manaulanan, Pamalian, and Panicupan from Pikit, and the village of Tapodoc from Aleosan.


The proposed municipality of Ligawasan will comprise the villages of Bagoinged, Barungis, Bulol, Buliok, Gli-Gli, Kabasalan, and Rajamuda from Pikit.


Upon ratification, the BARMM Government will immediately appoint the Mayor, Vice Mayor, and members of the Municipal Council for these municipalities.


These municipalities will also receive financial allocations from the BARMM Government until elected officials assume office.
