High Heat Index Persists Across Multiple Areas in the Philippines, PAGASA Warns of Health Risks

Manila —Many parts of the country are expected to continue experiencing high heat index levels today.


On Wednesday, the heat index reached 43 degrees Celsius in Dagupan City, Pangasinan, Dumangas, Iloilo, and Catarman, Northern Samar.


According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), these areas are at the "danger" level in terms of heat index or "init factor."


Heat index ranging from 42 to 51 degrees Celsius can lead to heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.


Meanwhile, a heat index of 42 degrees Celsius was recorded in Sangley Point, Cavite, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur, and Cotabato City in Maguindanao.


Hot weather was also felt at NAIA, Pasay City, with a heat index of 40 degrees Celsius, and at the Science Garden in Quezon City, with a hit index of 38 degrees Celsius.
