The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU) extends its gratitude to the Senate of the Philippines for adopting the Presidential Proclamations granting amnesty to former rebels.
On Wednesday, March 13, the Senate approved Presidential Proclamation 404, which gives amnesty to former members of the Communist Party of the Philippine-New People's Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) and its front organizations.
On March 4, 2024, the Senate also approved Presidential Proclamations 403, 405, and 406, granting amnesty to former members of the Revolutionary Workers' Party of the Philippines/Revolutionary Proletarian Army/Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPMP-RPA-ABB), Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF).
Following these developments, OPAPRU said the National Amnesty Commission (NAC) will issue the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) to signify the commencement of accepting applications from the mentioned revolutionary groups.
The OPAPRU expressed its appreciation to Senator Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on National Defense and Security, Peace, Unification, and Reconciliation, Senator Risa Hontiveros as the co-sponsor, Senate President Senator Miguez Zubiri, and other senators who supported the amnesty proclamations.
