Manila — Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU) urges everyone to refrain from any action or calls that destabilize the country, particularly the proposed separation of Mindanao from the Philippines.
In his official statement amidst the controversy surrounding the Mindanao secession, Secretary Galvez emphasized that such calls are contrary to the spirit and intent of the Philippine Constitution, which upholds the country's identity as a unified nation.
“When we, as Filipinos, are united, there is peace, development and prosperity. But when we, as a people, are divided, there is instability, underdevelopment and disorder, “ Sec Galvez said in his official statement.
He further stated that this goes against the principles of a nation now benefiting and experiencing the fruits of a comprehensive peace process that ended decades of conflict in Mindanao.
“For one, this call for separation is anathema to the letter and spirit of the Philippine Constitution, which is the bulwark of our nation's identity as a people. Second, it goes against the principles of a country which is already benefiting and enjoying from the dividends of the comprehensive peace process that has put an end to decades of armed conflict in Mindanao,” he added.
As Filipinos, Secretary Galvez emphasized the need to continue supporting the agenda of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s administration for peace, reconciliation, and unity. The benefits of peace, he said, are already being felt by everyone.
According to Secretary Galvez, members of former revolutionary groups have actively become part of the national development effort. He stressed that they have contributed to the government's promotion of genuine peace and sustained development in the Bangsamoro through an inclusive, people-centered, and morally guided governance.
According to the official, Mindanao has transformed from an image of turmoil, violence, and armed struggle to a symbol of hope, understanding, and unity. Above all, it serves as a reminder that positive outcomes are only achieved by those who choose the path of peace.
Secretary Galvez emphasized the importance of not reverting to the beginning. Instead, he urged learning from past lessons and living them as peace-loving citizens.
He called on everyone to always choose peace and remain united, as this is the only way for the nation to continue thriving as one people and country.
