Manila — Senator Jinggoy Estrada, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Labor, has advocated for the passage of Senate Bill 2534, which proposes an additional one hundred peso daily minimum wage increase for private sector workers across the Philippines.
The committee lowered the original proposal of one hundred fifty pesos per day due to the regional wage boards' mechanisms for wage increases in their respective areas.
The senator aims to bridge the income gap amidst the continuous rise in the prices of essential goods for workers. He believes that the purchasing power of workers can contribute to economic activity and stimulate the country's economy.
Around 4.2 million workers nationwide will benefit from this proposed measure if enacted.
