Cotabato City — A strategic planning session was recently held in General Santos City from February 1 to February 7, aiming to improve measures and strategies in overcoming any calamity or disaster in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao BARMM as part of Strengthening Institutions and Empowering Localities Against Disasters and Climate Change in the Philippines (SHIELD) initiative.
The Ministry of Interior and Local Government (MILG) led the discussion on how to effectively respond and mitigate the impact of disasters in communities, focusing on improving resilience in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Consortium of Bangsamoro Civil Society (CBCS), and the Bangsamoro Rapid Emergency Action on Disaster Incidence (READi).
During the session, the core team members were guided on the SHIELD Program, which was customized to the unique context of the Bangsamoro Region, utilizing the Bangsamoro Community Resilience (B-CORE) Framework.
BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim fully supported the collaboration and emphasized the importance of resilience in promoting development and peace and building a community prepared to face any disaster or calamity.
