Manila — The Toxic Watchdog group, Ban Toxic, has warned about the proliferation of counterfeit and fake perfumes in the market as Valentine's Day approaches. These perfumes are allegedly not authorized and pose health risks to individuals.
According to the monitoring conducted by Ban Toxic, there has been a surge in the availability of fake and cheap perfumes in the market. Thony Dizon, Toxics Campaigner of Ban Toxics, explained that these imitation perfumes contain ingredients not allowed in cosmetic products or may be contaminated with heavy metals.
The group revealed that these counterfeit perfumes are popular among consumers due to their low prices and packaging that resembles well-known brands.
Dizon emphasized that purchasing perfumes that have not undergone proper authorization can be hazardous to one's health.
Ban Toxics has urged the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and local officials to conduct joint inspections and verify the Certificate of Product Notification (CPN).
This step aligns with the Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009's objectives, which aim to protect consumers.
