Maguindanao del Norte — Two (2) out of three (3) suspects in the shooting of Dr. Sharmaine Baroquillo have surrendered to authorities and are now in the custody of Buluan Municipal Police.
"With the cooperation of the family, the local government unit of Pandag, and Buluan Municipal Police Stations, and because of the concerted effort, this led to the surrender of the suspects. They are now in the custody of Buluan Municipal Police Station. Yesterday, they arrived there in the afternoon, and currently, there is still one (1) suspect at-large, who is still the subject of our police operation," PBGen Nobleza said.
PNP PRO BAR Regional Director PBGen Allan Nobleza said one of the two suspects is 16 years old while the other is 18 years old.
"Accordingly, but this is for them to prove their ages, as claimed by the suspects; one is 16 years old, and the other is 18 years old, and they are from Buluan, and one (1) is from Pandag," PBGen added.
He also disclosed that they had already identified the shooter of the doctor and eyed robbery as the motive of the crime.
"Based on our initial investigation, these two pointed to one gunman that is already identified. Accordingly, he shot Dr. Baroquillo using a Caliber 45 pistol. Based on the recovered fired cartridge case, caliber 45 was the one obtained at the crime scene.
Accordingly, the motive was robbery. From the town of Datu Paglas, they followed the victim, and when they saw her, since the vehicle was not tinted completely, they saw that there was only one female occupant, which is why they planned for the supposed robbery," PBGen Nobleza revealed.
PBGen Nobleza also said that the alleged gunman was also involved in a series of robbery and murder cases in nearby towns and the adjacent province of Sultan Kudarat.
"We are going to file cases for attempted robbery and frustrated murder. We are going to file the case tomorrow," Nobleza emphasized.
