Manila —The Department of Justice is currently assessing the potential filing of sedition or rebellion charges against Davao del Norte Congressman Pantaleon Alvarez, as reported by Radyo Pilipinas. This investigation stems from the lawmaker's call on the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to withdraw support from the current administration.
DOJ Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has directed the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to look into the actions of the former House Speaker.
Alvarez made the statements during a prayer rally in Tagum City over the weekend following the suspension of the province's governor.
Remulla reminded Alvarez to uphold the high standards expected of a government official and a member of the Lower House.
