Manila —House Deputy Majority Leader Erwin Tulfo urged PhilHealth during the hearing of the House Joint Committee on Special Privileges to offer free mammograms, ultrasounds, and other tests to its female members, especially during Women's Month, as reported by Radyo Pilipinas.
The lawmaker referenced an article in a newspaper indicating that in August 2023, the number of cancer cases in the Philippines reached 86,484. Among these cases, approximately 27,163 are breast cancer cases reported annually.
Statistics also reveal that 9,926 Filipino women succumb to breast cancer, ranking third as the most fatal type of cancer among women.
PhilHealth Regional Office NCR Vice President Bernadette Lico pledged to include free mammograms and ultrasounds once the comprehensive allocation benefit package is launched.
Tulfo emphasized the need for PhilHealth to expedite this initiative, emphasizing that these services serve as preventive measures in promptly identifying and addressing illnesses.
