COTABATO CITY— The Ministry of Public Works of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) officially handed over the rehabilitated Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque—popularly known as the Grand Mosque of Cotabato—to the Bangsamoro Government.

Located in Barangay Kalanganan II, the mosque is one of the most significant religious landmarks in the region. Its turnover represents an essential milestone in BARMM’s continuing efforts to preserve vital religious structures across the region.

The rehabilitation project was initiated during the term of former Interim Chief Minister Ahod “Al Haj Murad” Ebrahim and completed under the current administration of Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua. According to the Bangsamoro Government, this reflects the continuity of public service and commitment to heritage conservation in BARMM.

Renovation works included waterproofing, repainting, installing air-conditioning units, building a new office, and building a perimeter fence to strengthen security around the mosque.

The Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage, which is now under the Office of the Chief Minister, will oversee the mosque’s management and upkeep.

Meanwhile, the Bangsamoro Government reminded visitors to observe proper conduct and respect the mosque's sanctity while on its premises.
