Notorious Abu Sayyaf Sub-leader Killed in Tawi-Tawi Shootout

Tawi-Tawi —A notorious sub-leader of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in Tawi-Tawi, identified as Udom Hashim, was killed in a shootout with authorities while serving a Warrant of Arrest, dawn, Tuesday, May 28.


The operation, which took place in Tandubas, Tawi-Tawi, resulted in the death of Hashim, who was wanted for 17 counts of murder and four (4) counts of frustrated murder.


According to information released by Radyo Pilipinas, a 30-minute exchange of gunfire occurred between Hashim's group and the joint forces of the PNP Intelligence Group, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), and Special Action Force (SAF).


Two (2) other ASG members and three (3) policemen were injured during the firefight but are reported to be in stable condition.


During the operation, the police recovered several medium-sized heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, an M14 rifle, an M16 rifle, multiple M203 40mm grenade launchers, one M203 40mm cartridge, assorted magazines and ammunition, and a bandolier.
